Healthcare workers at Greater Regional Medical Center (GRMC) in Creston first joined SEIU in 1985 as local 725. Then, in 1999, when healthcare and education workers across Iowa united to form a statewide union, the GRMC members were a founding chapter. Today, the chapter includes virtually all of the nearly 300 non-managerial staff at GRMC.
Over the years, GRMC members have negotiated contracts that set strong standards for pay and professional conduct. Unfortunately, in 2018, GRMC administrators decided to take the low road in bargaining. They used the unfair state law attacking public employees to strip away all but wages from the 2018-2020 contract. Nevertheless, the members won 3 percent across-the-board raises in both 2018 and 2019, which will help ensure that GRMC remains one of the leading employers in the area.
Here is a link to the brief contract listing the raises at GRMC in 2018 and 2019:
Immediately below is a link to the employee policies and procedures at GRMC. Although it does not have the force of a union contract, it does offer employees guidance in a variety of workplace situations. (Please note that the text in the PDF is searchable.)
